MEDIUM IS A MESSAGE: PHOTOGRAPHS, TEXT, MUSIC

I recently met Maciej Toporowicz to see his new offspring - a series of bold, color photographs he had recently taken and that almost no one had yet seen. It was accompanied by an equally powerful interview with him and a CD containing 5 songs that he co-produced with Eiko Ashizuka. (A few weeks later, he was in the now, somewhat infamous, exhibition called Mirroring Evil at the Jewish Museum.)

When I asked him to send me digital scans of his new photographs, Maciej sent me 8 CD-ROMs, each one of them containing a single photographic image. This would not be notable except for the fact that each image on each disk was scanned at a resolution that could be used for billboards on the Los Angeles freeway. My computer took hours to reduce the 365 megabytes image files to 3.65 kilobytes. For Maciej, irony and beauty are never lost and innocence is always still.

All this is to say: I hope you will look closely at Maciej Toporowicz's work - his images are as astounding as his written and musical work. Without further ado:
